The Phoenix Went Questing

The Phoenix Went Questing

 Master Korwyn Marius Velis Ariannaid

The Phoenix went questing on a desert day

His aspiration the crown of Caid to gain

First a maze of martial arts to master

Fall twice and he’d lose the treasure

Fa la fa la what a lovely way

To live the dream called Caid- O!

Fa la la fa la la on such a lovely day

To win the crown of Caid- O!

He began with a knot of wheels and circles

A tricksy bit of a tangle to untwist

But a winning unweaving finished that fray

And the Phoenix prevailed and continued on his way

Next, a bee buzzed to befuddle

The Phoenix plain and proper

A flounce of fiery wings

Brought sweet sugar of success

Fa la fa la what a lovely way

To fight for the dream called Caid- O!

Fa la la fa la la on such a lovely day

To win the crown of Caid- O!

Then a beast of malevolent myth

Barred the way with a hammer of war

Leathery-winged lion flew away

The conquest of the Phoenix in his claws

The phoenix rose only to face

A sinister boar conveying challenge

Talon to tusk, feathers a bristled

One last blow and his quest was done

Fa la fa la the Phoenix in defeat

Lives again by the magic of Caid-O!

Fa la la fa la la from the ashes anew

He rises in service to the dream of Caid-O!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Too much a child; too early come a man,

Set to a man’s duty in no mans’ land.

Second-hand memories of a baby never seen

Shared with mates while cleaning the instrument

A preserver of life; a bringer of death

Man and machine equals in a serrated fight

His dreaming is his own property,

Of a woman a mother but not yet wife

Of a mother and a father praying for his life

Of brothers and sisters far from this strife

Homecoming promised and gone three times

A tour of duty becomes occupation

Only a slender thread weaving to embrace

Bringing visions of a child walking

The babbling brook of a son talking

A lifeline of phantoms leading out of Hell’s space

And when that day came, it came so fast

He spent the time flying upon recollections of the past

He could see the food laid out

His family laughing and talking to music in the back

His son held up to give him a kiss amid his play

His heart, his soul, his wife

Touching him at the end of the day

It all ended with a bang

The happiest day of a man’s life

With a stone as pillow he laid down on the hill

He was home; no more dreaming to fulfill.

Air Song Star Home

Air Song Star Home

Air as sweetly liquid as tupelo mead

Air carrying soul’s music half-remembered

Air scented like honeyed potpourri of home

A song arising deep within a grand funk

A song sailing over the seven bridges

A song to get me closer yet to my home

A star lustrous set within the Southern Cross

A star shining my way like a compass rose

A star to sail like an eagle for my home

His Treasure

His Treasure

His eldest child, his treasure,

But not scion of his name

Yet love he gave in full measure

And his heart she had full claim

Not scion but still his heir

Not of property or gold

But of his pride and his care

Of those in his shielding fold

His only child surviving

Had he his way in her hands

Would he bestow the thriving

Keep of their ancestral lands

His eldest child, his treasure,

The bearer of his honor

For in her is his measure

And his hope of his tenor

Primogeniture has many forms, but the most common considers only the first-born son. A capable eldest child who is female is not only by-passed in the inheritance laws, but may also be addressed as a younger child.

Hankie

Hankie

Bounding across eternal summer fields

Eyes alight and tail all a-wag,

Age no more slows him down

As he races in sheer exhilaration

Sunlight and shadow he pauses to stalk

And pounces! One less phantom badger!

And when playtime is over

Hankie curls up inside da Momma’s heart

For a quick nap and prepares

For another rainbow day across the bridge.

Nike

Winging Over the Bridge

Over the river and through the woods
Winged Victory did go
Valient heart and a load of spunk
A spirit that would not let go

But the time came and she was cleared
For take off on St Sptehen’s Day
Her flight plan plotted out in loving tears
By her Mama who loves her so dear

Nike flew on her wings made of love
Over the Rainbow and to the fields
Where all puppies play and await
The glorious reunion day

Caiman Joe

 Caiman Joe

Sing tonight the Hounds of Hoosick Falls

Of the deeds and life of Brother Joe

With Love he lived and in love he slipped away

Dachshunds are built to be tough

They have to be to hold so much loving

To love life and to love family

And Ol’ Caiman Joe was extra tough

Like the gator in his name

He was tenacious and never let anything stop him

Life’s speed bumps were just a part of the fun

Joe had his softer side as well

A feller with ears of velvet just has to

His pack was his home and heart

From which he could never part.

He’s where forevermore

His bones warmed in the rainbow sun

And his feet run with the spirit winds

His knightly legacy of joy and perseverance

contained in pictures and memories

And in a small puppy wheelchair

Standing beside the door
